4th Tracton Natural Heritage Weekend
Aug 22nd-24th, 2025
Organised by Tracton Biodiversity Group, his year’s event will be opened on Sat morning 23rd at 11 am by Chris O’Sullivan – Minister for Nature , Heritage and Biodiversity followed by a special presentation on the incredible migratory journeys of birds by Eric Dempsey, Broadcaster, Author and Wildlife photographer.
Other presentations include The Underwater Wonders of the Oysterhaven estuary in association with Cork Sub Aqua club and Fairy Forts of Ireland with Jo Kerrigan
We have workshops on compost making and helping native bees and lots of arts and crafts for children as well as farm walks and a Béile le Chéile
An art and photographic exhibition and an outdoor Time travel walk following the story of Tracton from 350 million years ago to today means there is something inspiring for everyone.
All events are free but we welcome donations!

There's something special about Tracton...
From an ecological perspective, the diversity of the natural habitats in our local area makes Tracton unique.
The combination of woodland, estuary, salt marsh, open farmland, freshwater lake, rivers and shoreline attracts a wide variety of butterflies, moths migrant birds and other animals, and it supports rare and unusual plants. To the members of these different species Tracton is home; it provides the special conditions they require to survive, grow, thrive and rear their families.
If you are interested to learn more about the wonderfully unique environment in which you live, and also fun ways in which you and your family can appreciate and contribute to maintaining this biodiversity, please provide us with your email address so that we can notify you of upcoming activities and events.

WATER QUALITY SURVEY
Water is key to the beauty and viability of the Tracton area, which is home to rare and protected species of plants and insects. The first step to preserving and enhancing the rich biodiversity and our incomparable environment was to survey the quality of the water in the Minane River Valley.
