TRACTON ARTS & COMMUNITY CENTRE... A JEWEL IN THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY
Tracton Arts & Community Centre is located in beautiful, rural surroundings near the village of Minane Bridge, County Cork. It offers a broad range of facilities in a magnificently restored and extended old school house including conference room facilities and a theatre. Hosting a range of activities to suit young and old, passive or active, the community centre has become the heart of local community life; from exercise classes to art classes, and meetings for mothers & toddlers to activities for the retired. The attached Inkwell Theatre has hosted a wide variety of shows; from local, amateur drama groups and choirs through to international performers such as the Vanbrugh Quartet, Luka Bloom and Mick Flannery.
The community centre comprises two large rooms suitable for e.g. sports classes, parties and meetings, and the theatre is a 120 seat venue with a modular stage, full sound and lighting equipment, a film projector and screen. With the stage packed away it becomes a flexible, airy space suitable for a variety of activities and events.
Outside the grounds are being thoughtfully landscaped, there is a large car park, a running track of almost 400m and a purpose built bread & pizza oven.

Tracton Arts & Community Centre is delighted, and excited, to announce that we have approval for grant funding for the installation of a lift in the entrance hall. This will fulfil our dream of creating a user-friendly space, accessible by everyone in our community.
Minister Humphreys (Rural and Community Development) has pledged over €33 million to upgrade and develop 278 Community Centres up and down the land. The grant we will receive is to cover 95% of the cost to buy and install the lift. The project will go ahead in the coming months, and in the meantime we will be fundraising for the extra 5% to cover the total cost. We are very proud that our Community Centre, and all the wonderful activities and events happening there, will be more accessible for all in future. |
TRACTON COMMUNITY COUNCILTracton Arts & Community Centre and the Inkwell Theatre are run by Tracton Community Council; a group of volunteers who work to maintain and improve the environment and facilities in the Tracton area. The Knocknamanagh Old School Story...
The building that is now Tracton Arts & Community Centre is a rare surviving example in Ireland of a two-storey Georgian National School, and is on the Register of Protected Structures (ref-Cork County Council RPS 00662). Threatened with demolition by Cork County Council in 2003, it was acquired by Tracton Community Council in 2006, and a specific committee (KOST - Knocknamanagh Old School Trust) was established to oversee the restoration and development.
