ROSE OF NEVADA

An atmospheric and eerie time-travelling drama with sci-fi and ghost story elements. Three decades ago, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea, along with its crew. Now, it has returned. In a remote fishing village, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick, desperate to provide for his young family, and Liam, a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage, they return to harbour, only to find that nothing is as they remember it...

This Mark Jenkin film is described as hard to classify - having elements of drama, fantasy, horror, mystery, thriller and sci-fi. Although it is sometimes chilling and has unsettling themes, it is not especially scary. (Click here to read review.)

JUST AN ILLUSION

The directors of the hit comedy-drama The Intouchables return with this funny and charming study of family life. It is 1985, in the Paris suburbs, and 13-year-old Vincent lives in an apartment block with his parents, Yves and Sandrine, and older brother Amaud. Yves has recently lost his job, and is trying to hide the fact from his family. 80s women were told they could be having it all - but in reality Sandrine, and many others like her, were doing it all. Meanwhile Vincent and his friends, are experiencing the highs and lows of early adolescence. When assigned to a school project with his classmate Anne-Karine, Vincent is determined to win her over. A lovingly nostalgic crowd-pleaser, this film captures a particular French sensibility alongside universal truths about growing up. It also boasts an impressively rich soundtrack of 80s hits (including the titular Imagination classic).

Films are usually screened at 8pm on the second Friday of each month. Film Society Membership is great value, and gains you entry to all films screened at The Inkwell Theatre throughout the year.

Non film society members are always welcome. Pay €8 per screening on the door. If using cash, exact change is appreciated.

There will be drinks and snacks available before all film screenings. We hope that you will support our bar, from which all profits go towards the upkeep of Tracton Arts & Community Centre. Thank you.

Membership is great value, but not mandatory. Unless stated otherwise, tickets will be sold on the door at each screening.
However, occasionally, when a film is known to be particularly popular, and therefore likely to sell out, we will sell tickets in advance online. Any remaining unsold tickets will then be sold on the door. If this is to be the case, it will be stated clearly wherever the film is advertised.

*We can only accept new members in September each year.
Film Society Membership for 2026-27 costs €45, and will run for 9 months from September '26 - May '27. These dates form part of the conditions of our contract with Access Cinema, who obtain the licences for the films we screen on the basis of the number of members we have at the beginning of the contract.
