Claire Foy plays Helen Macdonald in 2007, a fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge teaching the history and philosophy of science. Helen adores and hero-worships her Dad, the award-winning photographer Alisdair Macdonald, played in the film by Brendan Gleeson - who inculcated in her a love of nature - and when he dies she is utterly distraught. After losing her beloved father, Helen finds herself saved by an unlikely friendship with a stubborn hawk named Mabel. This film is based on Helen's memoir:

Films are usually screened at 8pm on the second Friday of each month. Film Society Membership is great value, and gains you entry to all films screened at The Inkwell Theatre throughout the year.

We can only accept new members in September each year.
Film Society Membership runs for 12 months from September each year; this is a condition of our contract with Access Cinema, who obtain the licences for the films we screen on the basis of the number of members we have at the beginning of this 12 month period.
