Sound Medicine has become very popular here in Ireland in recent years, but it has been used for centuries in many cultures, including ancient India, North & South America, Europe & the Middle East. We have many beautiful instruments from these cultures, such as Himalayan bowls, rattles, drums and flutes. Each culture has its own unique healing methods.
Sound healing uses different vibrations to heal the body, mind and spirit. Using sacred sounds for healing allows the body to become more in tune with itself. Specialized sound frequencies induce a meditative state by calming an active mind; this is deeply relaxing and helps a deeper healing to occur. The nervous system can rebalance, and stuck emotions can be released. Pain can then be reduced by the body’s own healing and pain management mechanisms. When our body's energy is healthy its own healing abilities are enhanced. |
My interest in sound healing began after a session at a yoga festival; I found the therapeutic effect of sound amazing - and so my sound journey began. After purchasing a singing bowl and a few tuning forks, I began using sound as part of my work with an autistic class in school. I discovered that sound has such a calming effect on the children. I bought more instruments and took courses, and now, every Monday, I hold a class sound bath. My colleagues and I have noticed how each child has progressed over the weeks, learning how to relax - to become still and calm.

What is a sound bath?
The experience begins with each person lying down, eyes closed, with mats, cushions, and blankets – comfort is key! After a short, guided meditation various sounds and frequencies are played, using instruments such as gong, drum, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, chimes, sansula and more. The sounds and vibrations help to calm your brain waves - this enables you to shift to a more dream like state, allowing the body to relax deeply and restoration to take place. Each person has a different experience - most find it deeply relaxing, some experience an emotional release, others report magical journeys provoked by the healing vibrations. |
As well as sound instruments we can use our voice to promote healing. When we use our voice, for instance in humming, toning, or chanting, we create happy endorphins and other feel-good hormones - oxytocin for example. The benefits of sound healing include:

I host regular sound bathing events at Tracton Arts & Community Centre (other venues will follow soon). We gather by candlelight for an evening of relaxation and rejuvenation with beautiful sacred sounds. Afterwards I offer herbal teas & treats, and oracle cards are handed out for anyone who would like to draw a card for inspiration & guidance.
|
I also offer one to one sound baths & healing therapy. Himalayan bowls are placed on and around the body. The sound does the massage, and each treatment is uniquely tailored to the client. Other instruments are used intuitively to promote health and healing of the body, mind and spirit.

PLEASE NOTE: Gong baths may not be suitable during the first trimester of pregnancy, or for those with epilepsy or a pacemaker.
