Tracton Genealogy & Local History Group
Tracton Genealogy & Local History Committee aims to assist those who wish to acquire knowledge of their ancestral roots in the area,
and to generate more interest among the local population and among the Diaspora in genealogy, history and folklore.
Recent genealogy queries have come from Australia, Boston, London, Scotland and Ireland.
If you have knowledge of ancestors bearing the following surnames we will be delighted to hear from you…
Sansby
Campbell
Locke
Flaherty
Dunlay
Richie
De Courcy
Coveney
We are proposing setting up a DNA database for the Tracton area. By mapping your family tree and comparing your DNA matches, it is possible to identify positively anyone from around the world with whom you are genetically linked. We would be interested to hear from any local people who have already had their DNA tested.
It is an earnest hope that a programme will take shape soon for the on-going maintenance and care of Tracton Abbey Graveyard. With advice from the Historic Graves Project, we hope to set up a voluntary group comprising the Church of Ireland, Cork County Council Heritage Department, Tracton Community Council and local residents whose ancestors are buried in the graveyard.
